HAWAIKI: A MUSICAL & THEATRICAL ODYSSEY

Taimane returns to Hawai‘i Theatre Center on August 25th, with a grand ensemble poised to deliver a feast for the senses and soul with a one-night-only presentation of Hawaiki, a theatrical odyssey written, scored and produced by the international ‘ukulele star and composer. Music, dance, costume, aerial acrobatics and spoken word will transform Hawai’i Theatre’s historic stage into a mystical orb and transport attendees to Polynesia’s spiritual home.

“Hawaiki” is known throughout Polynesia as the place where the souls of Pacific islanders originate and return and where Gods and Goddesses live. Hawaiki is also the title of Taimane’s latest album on which she tells the story of a young woman, Maluhia, thrust into a wild adventure across the island’s shores and deep into its caves and underworld. Through encounters with Kanaloa, Savea and other deities, Maluhia’s eyes awaken, finding her mana and freeing her spirit to soar.

At Hawai’i Theatre Center, this story will come to life through vibrant colors, sounds, words and motion. Taimane will feature multiple artists who will perform poetry, as well as aerial, Polynesian and modern dance, to portray  her interpretation and vision of the story of Hawaiki.

Attendees of Taimane’s August 25th show will be treated to two sets of entertainment: Set 1 – Taimane performing her ‘greatest hits’ with her band, and Set 2 – Taimane’s presentation of Hawaiki with her entire ensemble.

Hawaiki is Taimane’s second theatrical concert at Hawai‘i Theater Center. In March 2016, she produced and presented ‘Elemental’ to a full house garnering rave reviews from showgoers and critics alike.
