Description:
For many people, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ is THE movie musical. The American Film Institute even put it in the number one spot on its Greatest Movie Musicals list. In 1989, ‘Singin' in the Rain’ became one of the first 25 films selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Both Empire and Sight & Sound magazine included it in the top 10 on their lists of the greatest films of all time.
Directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ stars Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. The movie takes place during the transition from silent film to “talkies,” and features some of the most beloved song and dance routines in cinematic history, including “Make ‘Em Laugh,” “Good Morning,” “Moses Supposes,” and of course the title number, which Kelly famously performed while combating a 103 degree fever.
Legendary film critic Roger Ebert perhaps put it best when he wrote, “There is no movie musical more fun than ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ and few that remain as fresh over the years….’Singin’ in the Rain’ is a transcendent experience, and no one who loves movies can afford to miss it.”
