The Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaiʻi Foundationʻs 25th Classical Japanese Dance Grand Recital will commemorate 78 years since the founding of the Academy, within which time will have produced twenty-five Grand Recitals featuring unabridged dance performances in traditional costume from a variety of traditional music genres and role types. Guest performers include the 5th generation headmaster of the Hanayagi school of classical Japanese dance, Hanayagi Jusuke along with other guests from Tokyo, Japan. This Grand Recital will also celebrate two students who have recently passed examinations to receive their shihan master dance licenses, and their performances will mark their first stage appearances since this accomplishment.
In total, the program will consist of 11 numbers performed by 16 dancers, with one ensemble production.
Through this production, the Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaii Foundation strives to positively impact audiences by creating an opportunity for newcomers to experience nihon buyō for the first time, encouraging our community to cultivate interest in this art-form, and contributing to our diasporic communityʻs long and vibrant history perpetuating our cultural heritage.
